MINUTES
City Council
Nov. 4, 1987
E~ The Engineer• r•epor~ted that ther•e ar~e a total of 55 acr•es on the south
t
h
~
Dr•ai nage of Ger•vai s that dr~ai n i nto the 1 ake. The Engi neer• al so a
ted t
r•epor
Matter• the water• that effects the Eng pr~oper•ty is dr•aining fr•om south of
County Road B-2 and is com ing from a total of 36 acr•es.
The Engineer• r•eviewed the elevations of the Eng house as well as the
Hammond house.
The Engi neer• al so expl ai ned that when the 1 ar•ge sewer• i nter•ceptor~
line was installed along County Road B-2, a culver•t acr•oss fr~om the
Eng pr•oper•ty was r~epl aced wi th three 12-i nch cul ver~ts. The Engi neer•
also r•epor•ted that the elevation of the pond on the Hammond pr~oper•ty
is pr~esently 857.7 feet while the elevation of the lake is a foot
higher• at 858.7 feet. The Engineer• r•epor•ted that the r~eason the
lake is about a foot higher~ than the pond is that there is a much
gr•eater• ar•ea dr•aining into the lake than thev~e is dr•aining into the
pond fr•om the south.
The Engineer• also r•epor•ted that the bottom of the culver•ts on the
other side of County Road B-2 is 859.7 which is only one foot above
the lake level.
The Engineer• r~epor•ted that he has given some thought to solutions
to the Eng's water~ pr•oblem. One possible solution was to r•un a
stor•m sewer• pipe between the Eng and liammond homes. Nowever~, ther~e
is only one foot of differ~ence between the bottom of the culver~t and
the lake. Dur•ing times when the lake level is high, lake water• could
back up into this pipe. The Engineer• r~epor•ted that the level of the
Eng's basesent is 860.34 feet which is only about 1 1/2 feet above
the lake. At flood stage the lake has r•eached the 862 elevation.
Blesener• pointed out that the 860.9 elevation is the high water• level,
and the Eng's basement is below that level.
The Engineer• reported that he also consider•ed the idea of digging a
ponding ar•ea on the south side of County Road B-2, and noted that
this ar•ea was lower• befor~e the sewer• interceptor~ went thr•ough.
However•, the Fngineer• stated that he believed that if the City dug
a pond in this ar•ea, it would fill up with water• and ther•e would be
no stor•age ar~ea.
Finally, the Engineer~ suggested that the City investigate a dike
system with a pump sHowever•t~theaEngineeoneeportednthat heehasenot
Hollow apar•tments.
had adequate time to investigate this idea completely.
Fahey asked if the City has contr•ibuted to the dr~ainage pr•oblem
on County Road B-2, or~ if the pr•oblem is a County one. Fahey
pointed out that Mr~. Eng claims the pr•oblem has been intensified
since the sewer~ interceptor~ line was installed.
The Engineer• stated that he felt the basic pr~oblem was the elevation
Page -9-
