MINUTES <br />City Council <br />Jan. 6, 1988 <br />Fahey pointed out that the City spends about $1,500 on Canadian Days <br />and suggested that the sur•vey address this and deter~mine the feeling <br />of the public on the City's financial par•ticipation in Canadian Days. <br />Tr•axler~ o~as concer~ned about putting a dollar• amount in a question. <br />Tr•axler~ felt the same infor~mation could be obtained by asking the <br />question about the size of Canadian Days. <br />Fahey suggested that question 66 should be r•ephr•ased so as to ask <br />why the r•espondent does not attend Canadian Days if it is indicated <br />that he or• she does not attend. <br />Tr•axler• suggested that question 74 be eliminated as she did not <br />feel r•espondents will have any specific ideas in this ar~ea. <br />Fahey felt that question 75 was negatively phr•ased. <br />Tr•axl er• and Mor•r~i s di d not thi nk so and r•epor~ted that they have used <br />this same question successfully in other• sur•veys. <br />Council discussed this question and felt that the wor•ding should be <br />changed somewhat suggesting the use of the phr•ases "tax incentives" <br />and "zoning var•iances". <br />Mor~r~is agr•eed to wor•k on the wor•dinq of this question. <br />It was suggested thai: rather than "garbage disposal" in question 76, <br />the phr•ase "unsightly yar•ds" be added. <br />Scalze suggested that a question be added about tempor•ar•y business <br />signs. <br />Mor•r~is r•eplied that he has asked this question befor•e in other~ <br />sur•veys and about 65% of the r~espondents do not car~e. Mor•r•i s suggested <br />that the same per•centage would hold tr~ue in the City. <br />Fahey suggested that questions 79 thr~ough 83 be deleted. <br />Council discussed this suggestion and questions 79 thr•ough 82 wer~e <br />deleted from the survey. <br />Question 83 was discussed and it was suggested that the wor•d "car•e" <br />in the fir•st line be changed to "pr•ogr•ams". <br />Scalze pointed out that she would like to deter~mine if the senior•s <br />in the City are being served by the Fairview Community Center and <br />the 55+ Club. Scalze suggested that the phr~asing of question 83 <br />could be changed to ask if the r•espondent or~ someone in their• family <br />participates in the senior programs offered by the City and School <br />District and if not, why not. <br />Council discussed questions 84 thr•ough 90 with Fahey questioning <br />how the sur•vey would distinguish between Cit,y and County str•eets. <br />Page -8- <br />
