MINUTES
City Council
Feb. 10, 1988
City Center
Expansion
(Cont.)
Scalze noted that the Senior• Citizen gr•oup has 250 member~s and this
gr•oup would be inter•ested in holding its meetings at the City Center•.
Blesener• suggested that the ar~chitect could be asked to give cost
estimates on var•ious sized Council Chamber•s.
Ther•e was a comment on better• acquostics for~ the Chamber~s, however•,
this would be handled nor•mally under~ good ar~chitectur•al pr•actices.
The comment was made for~ placement of the confer~ence r~oom adjoining
the Council Chamber•s so that this r~oom could handle over~flow fr~om the
Chamber~s. Blesener• suggested that SEH look at this as well.
Blesener• r•eviewed the comment suggesting basement under• the new
addition which could include stor~age, offices, or~ public meeting
r•ooms. Blesener~ noted that if the basement wer•e used for• office
or• public meetings, an elevator• or~ r~amp would be necessar~y.
However~, it was discussed that if a basement is included under• the
new addition it should be water•-pr•oofed as ther•e is cur•r•ently a
water problem in the City Center's existing basement. The Council
felt the ar•chitects should also consider• as par•t of the addition
better~ water•-pr•oofing of the existing basement.
Blesener pointed out that it was suggested that the Recreation
Depar~tment offices be moved to the computer• r~oom so that Recr•eation
could have outside access to their office.
Blesener• also suggested that the City Cler~k's pr•oposed office
location be moved to where the Building Inspector's office is
pr•oposed so that the gener•al public does not have to go thr•ough
the office area to see the City Cler•k. Also, the Recr~eation
Depar~tment is r•equesting, if possible, dir•ect access to the basement
stor•age ar•ea fr~om their~ office by means of a stair~way fr•om the
existing landing. Blesener suggested that the ar•chitect look at this
suggestion as well.
Blesener~ felt the r•eception ar•ea should be changed so that the public
would be ser~ved at an open counter• ar~ea similar~ to the one at the
City Center now.
Blesener• also suggested incr~easing the size of the various
depar•tment offices by eliminating the cler•ical desks shown outside
these offices and nar~r•owing the hallway ar~ea to appr~oximately 6
feet. Thi s woul d gi ve the Ci ty Cl er~k r•oom for~ a confer•ence tabl e
in his office and the 6uilding Inspector~ r~oom for~ a table for~ maps
and plans.
It was also suggested that a stor~age ar~ea be included above the
new addition as well as display cases in the entr•y ar•ea.
The suggestion was made to combine the lunch room and kitchen area,
however~, it was the feeling of the Council that these two r~ooms
should be separ•ate.
page -12-
