MINUTES
Council and Planning Commission
Mar•ch 10, 1988
Bor~g also pointed out to the Council and Commission the high cost of
pool maintenance, estimating that cost at $50,000 per• year•.
Scalze pointed out that the 5chool Distr•ict has the option of condomini-
mizing the building and selling only a por~tion of it such as was done
with the Old Little Canada School. Scalze stated that this is what she
per~sonally would like to see with the School Distr•ict keeping a por~tion
of the building as a satellite community center• on the east end of the
distr•ict. Scalze pointed out the many pr~ogr~ams at Fair~view Community
Center~, especially senior~ citizen pr•ogr•ams, that are not used by Little
Canada r~esidents because Fair•view is too far• to go.
Julie Cartlinal, Community Education Coordinator, pointed out that there
ar~e swimming pr~ogr~ams at Par•kview as well as Fair~view.
Cliane Husak commented on the difficulty in getting childr~en into swimming
lessons because of the high demand. Husak noted that the Capitol View
pool is no longer~ being used.
Bor•g did not feel ther~e was a shor•tage of swimming pools in the Distr~ict.
Fahey commented that r•esidents at this end of the School Distr•ict
feel short-changed due to the location of community education center•s
within the Distr•ict. Fahey stated that Little Canada is not getting
i ts fai r• shar~e of tax dol l ar•s wi th r~egar•d to communi ty educati on
facilities.
Scalze felt the City had to let the School District know what is
r•ight for• Little Canacla.
Fahey asked if the City of Roseville ran any swimminq programs.
f3or•g r•eplied that Roseville did not and that the School Distr~ict
conducted all the swimming programs in the District.
DeLonais pointed out that Capitol View is located between two population
center•s within the Distr•ict.
Fahe.y asked for~ feelings fr•om those pr•esent in City par•ticipation in
the addition onto Little Canada School and the need for retention of
inside facilities at Capitol View.
Costa asked what outside facilities wer•e located at Capitol View.
Borg replied that there are 4 tennis cour~ts, 2 baseball fields, 1
softball field and a football/soccer~ field with r~unning tr~act.
Fahey suggested the possibilit,y of the School Distr~ict r•etaininq
the land to the east and only the Capitol View building beinq rezoned
to R-3 PUD, if ther~e was not enough inter•est in r•etaining the inside
facilities.
Page -3-
