MINUTES
Council and Planning Commission
Mar~ch 10, 1988
r~emain as is. However~, St. Ber•nar•d's is not r•eady to make an offer•
at this point and would need to put together• some financial ar•r•anqements.
The Chairman stated that St. P,ernard's does not expect the School
Distr•ict to wait, but would like to buy some time in or•der• to make
a decision. The Chair~man repor•ted that ther•e ar~e thr•ee levels at
St. fter•nar~d's that must consider the pur•chase, and anticipated that
a decision by the School Board, which is only one 1eve1, would be
made by May lst.
DeLonais asked if St. Ber•nar•d's was inter•ested in the swimming pool
and gym.
The St. Ber~nar•d's Chair~man r•eplied that the swimming pool is not of
gr•eat inter•est because of the maintenance costs. However•, the gym
would be used dur~ing school hour•s, but could be scheduled for~ evening
activities by the Cit,y.
DeLonais asked if outdoor• facilties could be shar•ed with the City.
The Chair•man r•eplied that this was a qood possibility.
Fahey r~epor•ted that he and Councilman Collova would be meeting with
the School Distr•ict on Monday to make an offer for~ the pur~chase of
Spooner Park.
Fahe.y asked if the pr•oceeds fr~om the sale of Capitol View would be
needed for• the Little Canada Elementary expansion.
Bor~g r•eplied that pr•oceeds fr•om the sale of Lexington School as well as
Spooner Park would be needed for the Little Canada Addition, but was
unsur•e at this point if the pr•oceeds fr•om these sales would be sufficient
without some pr•oceeds fr•om the sale of Capitol View. Bor•g r~epor~ted that
he is meeting with the ar~chitect for• the Little Canada Addition on Monday
after•noon to discuss costs and squar•e footage, and would have a better•
idea at that time.
Davison felt that the expanded definition of Public zoning would be
better~ than r•ezoning the Capitol View site to B-3 PUD at this time.
Fahey noted that St. Qer•nar•d's has been studying the Capitol View
pr•oper~ty for• some time, and did not feel it fair• to make the School
Distr•ict wait for~ a decision. Fahey stated that he would not be
against rezoning the Capitol View building Q-3 PUD if the decision
was made that the inside facilities wer~e not needed, and if the City
left the zoning of the land to the east Public and r~etained use of
these outdoor• facilities. However~, Fahey stated that if ther•e was a
lot str~onger~ input fr•om the public that they would like to see St.
Ber~nar•d's locate at the site, he would change this position. But
Fahey r•epor•ted that he has not had this input.
Scalze again stated that the Council must consider what is best for•
the City and the citizens of Little Canada, whatever~ that may be.
Page -6-
