MIDIUTES
City Council
Mar•ch 23, 1988
P1or~e1 an r~epor~ted that the shel ter~ at the top of the par~k i s the most
used shelter~, however~, eventually ther•e may be a need for~ bathrooms
near~ the lower• shelter• as well.
Blesener• pointed out that the shelter~s ar•e quite small and asked if
ther~e wer•e plans to incr•ease the size of the shelter~s.
Mor•el an repl i ed that ther•e wer~e not at thi s time, ther~e ar~e al so no
plans to add an additional shelter•, and the bandstand ar•ea has been
used to meet over•flow demands.
Fahey asked if the Commission discussed the idea of a community meeting
r~oom as par•t of the school addition. Fahey stated that he was concer•ned
about adding such a r•oom to the City Center• as par•t of a new addition,
noting that it would be costly to add a r~oom lar~ge enough to meet the
needs of the 55+ Club.
41ehr•le r•eplied that ther•e was a gr•eat deal of discussion on this subject,
and the Committee noted that cur~r•ent space as well as the new multi-
pur•pose r~oom planned by the School Distr~ict at the Little Canada
Elementar•y School could be pr~ogr•ammed for~ community meeting space,
without a separ•ate r•oom being designated for~ this pur~pose.
Scalze noted that the City has discussed adding a lar•ger~ Council
Chamber•s and it was mentioned that the 55+ Club has 250 member~s
who ar~e cur~r•ently using the basement of St. John's Chur~ch.
Mor~elan stated that the Committee's feeling ~s that a smaller~ community
r•oom should be added to the City Center•, not to meet the needs of
the 55+ Club, but r•ather• for~ smaller~ meetings, such as coaches'
meetings or~ tr~aininq sessions.
Blesener• noted that such a r~oom is alr•eady in the planning of the
City Center addition.
Collova stated that the Committee felt the community r•oom was better•
located at the City Center~ wher•e the City would have complete contr•ol.
Fahey pointed out that Jur•an & Moody have mentioned potential pr•oblems
with enter~ing into an agr•eement with the School Distr~ict on shar~ed
facilities, if the School Distr•ict then decides to se11 a building.
Blesener• pointed out that a por•tion of the building could be set off,
such as the Capitol View music r~oom, so that if the building is ever•
sold, it could be condominiumized.
Scalze asked if the City would then have to pay for• a facility twice.
Blesener• r•eplied that the School District would have to take into
consideration any contr•ibution the City made towar•d the facility.
Fahey asked if ther~e was any discussion about an access door~ on the
Page -2-
