MINUTES
City Council
Mar•ch 23, 1988
west end of the building which would pr•ovide outside access to the
facility. Fahey also suggested that the addition could be par•titioned
off so that the City could use the r•ecr•eational facilities at this
end of the building and pr•ovide its own super~vision of these facilities.
The City might also par•ticipate in the cost of par•king ar•ea for• the
west end of the building. Fahey stated that he could not see the City
building a lar•ge addition to the City Center that would include a
lar•ge community r~oom that will sit vacant most of the time.
Wehr~le agr~eed that a second access could be accommodated on the west
end of the building.
Scalze pointed out that the multi-pur~pose r•oom would pr~obably not be
available for• use by senior~ citizens dur•ing the day.
Blesener• agr•eed that this was the biggest dr~awback. Blesener• stated
that if a full-sized gym and bathr•oom facilities ar•e not needed in
the school addition, he would like to see access fr•om the west end
of the building, per•haps bathr~ooms, and some consider•ationfor•making
the gym a little lar•ger• for~ some adult activities.
Fahey felt that if 9 classr~ooms wer•e going to be added, additional
bathr•ooms would be added as well. Fahey suggested that the City
could r•equest that the bathr~ooms be placed so that they ar•e accessible
to the west end of the building.
Blesener~ did not think the School District would request City cost
par~ticipation in design changes the City might suggest.
Fahey suggested that with par•king facilities on the west end of the
building and an access door•, the multi-pur•pose r~oom that is being
planned would be accessible to community gr•oups. Fahey again suggested
that the City could par•ticipate in the cost of the par•king lot.
Collova felt that an access door~ would be added at the west end
r~egar•dless.
Fahey asked if the Council disagr•eed with the Committee's r~ecommendation
that no shower• facilities be pr~ovided.
I3lesener~ pointed out that lar~ger~ gymnasiums and shower~s ar•e available
at the Middle School.
Scalze pointed out that ther~e is a lar~ge gym and cafeter•ia at Capitol
View.
Fahey outlined that the concensus at this point i~ with r~egar•d to the
Little Canada Elementar•y School Addition, that an access door• be
requested at the west end of the building, an agreement for shared
parking or some type of access between a smaller parking lot and
the par•king lot adjacent to the ballfield ar~ea.
Page -3-
