MINUTES <br />City Council <br />March 23, 1988 <br />Fahey also pointed out that the City could amend the definition of the <br />Public zoning classification to allow a user~ such as Globe Business <br />College as a permitted Public use. Globe is also interested in the <br />pr•oper•ty. <br />Collova agr•eed that this is exactly what he and Fahey have told the <br />School Distr~ict. <br />Ar~t Her~kenhoff felt the City was leaving itself open for~ a gr~eat deal <br />of lobbying effor•ts. <br />Fahey noted that if the City had said it would be offended if the School <br />Distr•ict mar•keted the pr•oper•ty as B-3, the School Distr•ict could still <br />have gone ahead and done it. However~, the City has the contr•ol over• the <br />Public zoning of the pr•oper•ty. <br />Scalze suggested that the City tell the School Distr~ict what it envisions <br />on the pr•oper•ty. <br />Blesener felt the School District is trying to get top dollar for their <br />property. <br />Scalze noted that the City gave St. Ber~nar•d's the indication that it will <br />give them some time to consider• whether• or~ not to pur•chase the pr•oper~ty. <br />Blesener• pointed out that the City is not selling the building. <br />Scalze commented that the City has contr•ol over• the zoning. <br />6lesener~ pointed out that the City does not have to r•ezone the pr•operty. <br />Fahey felt the minutes will r•eflect the City's feeling on the matter• <br />and clear~ly state that the City is inter•ested in leaving the pr~oper•t,y <br />Public. The City is inter~ested in wor~king with the School Distr•ict <br />antl a potential buyer• to fit into the Public zoning as in this way <br />the City can retain control over~ who occupies the property. <br />Fahey also commented that it is ver~y clear~ that the Council feels the <br />pr~oper•ty to the east should r•emain Public and at a ver~y minimum the land <br />to the east should be cut off and r•etained for~ r•ecr•eational pur•poses. <br />Fahey also commented that the City needs to wor•k with the School Distr~ict <br />on r•etai ni ng the i ndoor~ r~ecr~eati onal faci 1 i ties as wel 1. <br />Blesener• questioned the Recr•eation Committee's r•ecommendation with <br />regard to the swimming pool. <br />Wehr~le pointed out that in looking at the r•ecr•eational needs of the <br />City, it was felt that swimming should be offer•ed to citizens of Little <br />Canada. Wehrle reported that this decision was arrived at in light of <br />recent difficulties experienced by Little Canada residents in registering <br />children for swimming lessons in Roseville.
