MINUTES
City Council
June 8, 1988
Boosalis vegetation. Boosalis pointed out that the vegetation does pr~ovide screening
CUP (Cont.) fr~om the Townsley pr~oper•ty to the Boosalis proper•ty.
Blesener• r•epor•ted that about 5 feet of this natur•al vegetation is located
on the Townsley pr~oper•ty and appr•oximately 25 feet of the vegetation is
on the Boosalis pr•oper~ty.
Fahey pointed out that Townsley was inter•ested in pine tr~ees on the nor~th
side of the fence to br•eak up the fence line fr•om his pr~operty.
Collova felt that pine trees should be staggered on both sides of the
fence.
Blesener~ pointed out Boosalis's ar•gument that natur•al vegetation will be
distur•bed to plant pine tr•ees on the nor~th side of the fence.
Scalze felt ther•e would be some ar•eas wher•e the pines could be planted
without much distur•bance to the natural vegetation.
Boosalis r~epor~ted that during construction of the shopping center•, he
will be able to stay within the 25 feet on the south side of the pr•oposed
fence and will not need to distur•b any of the natur~al vegetation. Boosalis
stated that if pines are r•equir•ed on the nor•th side of the fence, he can
see pr•oblems with the natur~al vegetation being destr~oyed and Boosalis
did not want to be held r~esponsible for• this. Boosalis pointed out that
he is pr•oposing the tr•ees on the south side of the fence to be planted
12 feet on center•. A ber•m i s al so pr•oposed to get the ful l er• par•t of the
tr•ee up higher•.
Fahey suggested that half the trees pr•oposed be planted on the nor•th side
of the fence and the other half on the south. Fahey stated that if
Townsley was not uncomfortable with loosing some of the natur•al vegetation
on the nor•th side of the fence, then it was not unreasonable to r•equest
the developer• to plant tr•ees in this ar~ea.
Scalze felt the tr~ees should be planted 12 feet on center• on 6oth sides
of the fence.
Fahey disagr~eed and felt the tr~ees should be stagger~ed on bothsides of
the fence placing them so the combination of tr•ees on both sides of the
fence ar•e 12 feet on center•.
Blesener stated that he was not convinced that pine tr~ees wer~e necessary
on the nor•th side of the fence.
Fahey repor~ted that he was contacted by Fr•ank Lee, Iona Lane r~esident,
who stated that he suppor•ts any effor•ts by the City to pr•otect the Townsley
pr~oper~ty with additional buffer~.
Ther~e was no one from the gener~al public pr•esent wishing to comment on
this matter~.
Page -2-
