MI~IUTES
City Council
June 22, 1988
St. John's Sister~ Shir•ley, representing St. John's Chur~ch, appear~ed befor•e the
Use Of Council r•equesting appr~oval for• St. John's to use its convent home as
Convent a tempor•ar~y home for• r•efuge families. Sister• Shirley r•eported that the
For~ Refuge convent would be used on an on-going basis as the need ar~ises.
Families
Fahey r~eviewed the City Planner~'s r•epor•t dated June 22 which points out
Agenda that under~ Public zoning the home could not be used for• r•esidential use
Addition by other• than employees of the Chur~ch.
The Planner~ noted that the City could either expand the uses in the Public
zone to allow this type of housing, or• the pr•operty could be r•ezoned to
RB.
Council discussed amending the Public zoning and the effect such an
amendment would have on other~ Public-zoned par•cels in the City. The
Council concluded that the best way to handle the r•equest would be to
rezone the proper•ty to RB. While the r•ezoning is being pr•ocessed, the
Council was agr•eeable to a tempor•ar•y per~mit being gr•anted to St. John's
for~ use of the convent for• temporar~y housing.
Council was asked if the r•ezoning would effect the pr•oper~ty taxes on the
convent.
The City Cler~k r~eplied that pr•oper•ty taxes would not be effected unless
r~ent was collected for• the convent.
Mr•. Fahey intr~oduced the following r•esolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTI0~1 D10. 88-6-255 - APPROVING A TEMPORARY
PERMIT FOR 90 DAYS FOR ST. aOHN'S CHURCH FOR USE
OF THE CONVENT BUILDING TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY HOUSING
FOR REFUGE FAMILIES SUBJECT TO THE RECOMP9ENDATION
OF THE CITY PI.ANNER AS CONTAINED IN HIS REPORT
DATED JUNE 22, 1988 THAT THE PROPERTY BE REZONED TO
RESIDENTIAL BUSINESS WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO ST. JOHN'S
TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR THAT REZONING
The for~egoing r•esolution was duly seconded by Mr•s. Scalze.
Ayes (4) Fahey, Scalze, Collova, 6lesener~.
Nays (0).
Resolution declar•ed adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 19, Page 260.
Bar•-B-Que Council tabled consider~ation of the matter• of bar~-b-que gr•ills until
Gr•ills the next Council meeting.
Agenda
Item No. 11
Page -19-
