P9INUTES
City Council
Sept. 14, 1988
Kellogg
Hockey Rink
(Cont.)
Fahey asked if one hockey rink would be adequate.
Jim P9or~elan, Recreation Director, estimated that one hockey rink would
be adequate for the next 3 to 4 year~s. After that time the free skating
area could be moved and an additional hockey r•ink added.
Collova asked if authorization from the School Boar•d was necessary for
the improvement.
P9orelan replied that he has verbal authorization fr•om School District
staff, however, the School Board has not acted on the proposal. Mor•elan
felt a long-term agreement was necessar•y fr•om the School Boar~d befor~e
the City proceeded with the impr•ovement.
Fahey suggested that the City needs a fir•st right of refusal to purchase
the property should the School Boar•d decide to sell it. The City already
has an agreement with the School Board for use of the pr•operty for the City's
hockey program.
Morelan pointed out that $20,000 has been budgeted in the 1988 Budget
for~ this improvement. Additional money is being proposed in the 1989
Budget to complete the project. Mor~elan stated that he would like to
get the hockey r•ink and fr•ee skating area operational for the 1988 season.
Scalze reported that the Recreation Association has indicated that they
will donate $5,000 towards the pr•oject and Mor~elan will appr~oach the
North Suburban Youth Association to try to get additional funding.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 88-9-396 - AUTHORIZING THE
RECREATION DIRECTOR TO ODTAIN BIDS FOR THE
GRADING WORK AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW HOCKEY
RINK AT THE KELLOGG SITE AS REQUESTED
Outstanding
Service To
Youth
Award
Agenda
Item No. 15c
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mrs. Scalze.
Ayes (5) Blesener, Scalze, Collova, LaValle, Fahey.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 20, Page 410.
Scalze reported that the Recreation Association has nominated Joe Lunders
for• the Outstanding Service to Youth Award presented by Northwest Suburban
Youth Services.
It was the concensus of the Council to suppor•t the nomination of Joe
Lunder•s for this award.
Page -12-
