Fahey
stated that he did not want to be short-sighted and not put in
shower•s at this time only to find out down the r•oad that they should
have been put in. Fahey stated that he did not want to lose this
opportunity, however, agreed that it ~aould depend on the cost.
Scalze pointed out that for~ fall gymnastics, ther•e are 95 par•ticipants.
Scalze repor~ted that the g,ymnastics pr•ogram is gr•owing and that if
the program were located at the Little Canada School, some large
storage space would be needed for equipment.
Fahey suggested that the committee could look at that need, however,
he dicl not want to lose the oppor•tunity to install showers and locker~
rooms pointing out that the School District is under some time constraints.
Fahey asked how much time the City had to study the issue.
Thein r•eplied that the School District would like to br~eak ground in
the spr•inq. Thein r~eplied that plans still need to be finalized with
utilities designed. The bidding pr•ocess has to be oone through. Thein
stated that the School District was pressed for time. The District
antici~ated having full plans ready for~ submission to the Council at
their• ~lovember 23r•d meeting.
Thein r~epor~ted that the School District has no need for• shower~s, however•,
did not want to be short-sighted, and, therefor~e, is appr•oachina the City
as to their needs. Even the City's basketball pr•ogr•am would benefit
by storage space.
Rlesener~ asked how large the stor•age area should be.
P1orelan estimated that a 20 foot by 3Q foot r•oom might be necessar~y.
However~, P1orelan pointed out that it evould be pr~eferable to have
a r~oom just for g,ymnastics wher•e the equipment could remain in place.
Council agreed that a separ•ate gymnastics r•oom would not be feasible.
Qlesener• guessed that a 600 square foot storage room may cost $30,000.
Page -5-
