MINUTES
City Council
November 2, 1988
Scalze asked the estimated cost of shower~s and locker• rooms.
Thein estimated this cost at $50,000 with that estimate being on the high
side.
LaValle asked the size of the showers and the amount of locker•s.
Blesener• replied that from the plans it appeared there were 36 half
1 ocket~s.
Thein agreed and reported that ther•e would be separate men and women's
showers with six showerheads in each shower~.
Fahey asked if the elementary school used gymnastics equipment.
Thein reported that gymnastics is not offered in the elementary school
pr•ogr•am. However, the school does use the floor pads which would also
be neec!ed by a gymnastics pr•ogram.
Scalze asked if the City has been paying for• the use of the Middle School.
Morelan replied that the City will pay for• its use of the Middle School
this year and will be getting one bill at the end of the year• for its
use. Mor~elan pointed out, however, that the char~ge for• using the school
for• an evening is $5.00, which Mor•elan could not understand since the
charge obviously does not cover• the cost involved in keeping the school
open for an evening.
Fahey reported that he and the School Superintendent discussed a depreciation
cost factor for~ the City's contribution towar~ds the addition. The City's
cost could be spreaci out over a 10 to 20 year• time period, and should the
School District sell the school, the City would be refunded a pr~oportionate
amount of the City's contribution towar•d the addition. This way the City
would not be totally at r•isk if the building were sold.
Scalze asked if the intent of par•king on the west side of the school
building was to assess the School District for• this cost.
Fahey replied that this was correct, and the School District is r•equesting
that the parking improvements be bonded for• to relieve some budgetary
constr~aintswhich they ar•e under•.
Scalze asked if the School Distr•ict would pay for• piping the ditch which
would be necessary to expand parking in this ar•ea.
Fahey stated that this was cor•r•ect, and the costs would be assessed to
the School District.
Morelan questioned why the cost of the dr~iveway on the nor•th side of the
building was not included in the remodeling and addition costs.
Thein replied that this cost could have been included, however, the
Page -6-
