MINUTES
City Council
tdovember 2, 1988
that there are three other facilities within the City with showers and
locker rooms. Those are Roseville Area Middle School, St. John's and
Capital View. Morelan thought that some arr•anqement could be wor•ked out
for useage of the Capital View site by the City.
Morelan stated that ther~e is no guar•antee that the City will always be
able to use these three facilities. Nowever, Morelan felt assur•ed that
at least one of the facilities would always be available to the City.
Scalze stated that she felt storage space took pr•iority over showers.
Blesener pointed out that the Council has pr•eviously discussed the need
for a community center within the City, and he would rather get what
amounted to the same thing next to Spooner Par•k at a much lesser cost
than the City's purchasing or building a community center~ samewhere in
the City.
Morelan stated that he could see no demand for showers.
Collova pointed out that the City has never pushed adult recr•eation programs.
Morelan pointed out that based on the Roseville adult program, ther•e is no
usage of showers by youth and women par•ticipants, and limited usage by
adult male par•ticipants. Mor•elan again pointed out that if ther~e is the
demand for shower•s, the City has thr~ee facilities available with shower~s.
LaValle pointed out the growing recreation pr•ogr•am and felt that both
showers and storage space was needed.
Scalze stated that if showers and lockers ar•e approved, she wanted to be
sure that adequate stor•age space was included as well. Scalze again
stated that storage space had a higher~ prior~ity in her mincl over shower~s.
Fahey pointed out that the City's participation in the cost of showers
and lockers was a much lesser~ commitment than the pr•oposal first
suggested by the School Distr•ict for~ City participation in the cost of
the full-sized gym.
Morelan stated that he still agreed that stor~age space was needed, but
not the showers.
Husak commented that girls do not generally use shower facilities at
schools after participating in a recreational pr•ogram.
Fahey asked if ther•e was any inter•est in kitchen facilities for use
as a community center.
Scalze pointed out that the City has proposed to pr•ovide these
facilities in the Ci~y Center expansion.
The City Clerk askec', if the City was thinking about rental hall use
of these facilities.
Page -9-
