MINUTES
Cit,y Council
~lovember 9, 1988
Little Fahe.y aar•eed.
Canada
Elementar~y Scalze pointed out that at the November 23r~d Council meeting, the School
School District will be presenting costs for~ the addition of shower•s and lockers
(Cont.) as well as City storage space within the School.
Scalze stated that if it is the thinking of the Council that the addition
of these improvements to the School hy the City would be paid for from
the Par~k Development Fund, then she felt the Par•k Commission should review
the pr~oposal and make a recommendation.
Fahey stated that he saw no other sour•ce of money for• funding the improvements
other• than the Park Development Fund. Fahey asked if Sr.alze had any ideas
for funding the improvements.
Scalze stated that her only concern was that if Par•k Development Funds are
to be used, that the expenditur•e be appr•oved by the Par•k Commission.
Blesener stated that he was not sur•e wher•e else the mone,y would come from.
Blesener~ stated that he was not in favor of the money coming fr~om the
Gener~al Fund. Blesener pointed out that the Cit,y is in the position of
having the Park Dedication Fund r•efunded.
Fahey pointed out tne substantial donations being made to the Par~k
Dec!ication Fund, and felt the projected rate of contributions would
be sufficient to recover the funds spent on the shower~ and storage space
improvements.
Blesener and Fahey reported that they met with r~epresentatives of the Schobl
Distr•ict along with Collova on the r~evisions to the School addition plans
that wer•e discussed at the Council's special meeting.
Blesener presented the revised plans to the Council and gener~al public and
described these plans in detail. Blesener infor•med the gener•al public that
the School Distr•ict came to the City and asked if the City was inter•ested
in participating in the addition to the School by funding the impr•ovement
of showers and locker rooms. At the Special Meetina held to discuss the
pr•oposal, the City came up with the idea of storage space that could be
used for the City's gymnastics pr~ogram.
Blesener~ repor•ted that since that special meeting, Diane Husak, Assistant
Recreation Director, has determined that R16 square feet of storage area
is needed for the gymnastics equipment. However, the School Distr•ict is
pr~oposing a storage r•oom appr•oximately 9 feet by 23 feet, or a little over
200 square feet.
Blesener also reported that the School District's architect and Roger
4lorner• have suggested that the City could, use the staae area for• its
gymnastics program, pointing out the limited use that the School would
put the stage to. Gymnastics equipment could. be left up in a per~manent
position and would only need to be taken down when the School needed the
use of the stage.
Page -11-
