MINUTES
City Council
November 9, 1988
Little Fahey repor•ted that he had invited Husak to the meeting, hut indicated to
nada
Ca her that it would be satisfactory if she came up with the amount of square
.
Elementar~y footage she felt necessary for• storage space. Fahey reported that he
Fahey also pointed out that
meetin
f th
i
School
(Cont.l g.
e
ce o
received very short not
the Council had directed Collova and himself to work as a small committee
with the Sr.hool Distr~ict on this matter.
Scalze felt that the pr~ofessionals should be working with the School
Distr•ict on a plan that they feel will be good for their• progr•am.
LaValle asked if it were possible to move the nor•thwest corner of the
addition to provide a lar~ger storage area.
Collova repor~ted that he asked the ar~chitect for a cost estimate of moving
the south wall of the addition.
dlesener• pointed out that the nor•thwest corner could not be used for
storage as it is a hallway and. the hallway cannot be obstructed. Rlesener•
felt that the estimate of 816 square feet beina needed for• storage was
escal atecl.
Husak disagreed and pointed out the storage needs for the lar•ger pieces of
g,ymnastics equipment. Husak also repor•ted that she took into account
stor~age space below and between the various pieces of lar•ge equipment.
Husak was unsur•e how por~table some of the lar~ger• pieces of equipment
were, pointing out that she has only seen them in per•manent positions
in other gymnastics progr~ams.
Fahey pointed out that the stage ar~ea was 880 squar~e feet and that the
larger equipment could be placed on the stage in permanent positions.
Husak agr~eed that if the stage ca.n be used as indicated, that would wor~k.
However~, Husak asked where the equipment could be stor•ed when it needs to
be taken down. Husak stated that she was also concer~ned that some day the
School District would say they needed the space, and then asked what
would happen to the City's equipment.
Blesener pointed. out that there would be a contr•act between the City and
School District that would r~esolve this concern.
Collova suggested that the City contact the School principal to determine
the number• of times each year the School will need. the stage area to
d.eter~mine if the proposal is feasible.
Scalze pointed out that ther•e may be an insur•ance liability concer•n if the
City's equipment is not in a per~manent position.
Blesener sugqested that if the storage room is larae enough, one or two
large pieces of equipment could be left up in a permanent position.
Husak agreed that that could wor•k, but was concerned that one day the
School District would say they needed the storage r•oom.
Page -13-
