P"undell repor~ted that he has only cover~ed about half <br />the tr~ailer• park with this petition. <br />LaValle asked if the park made use of the civil defense building at Rice <br />Str~eet and North Owasso as a shelter. <br />Fahey repor~ted that the residents of the 3020 Rice Str•eet mobilehnme <br />par~k use this center. Fa.hey pointed nut that both these buildings are in <br />88-12-546 walking distance fr•om the par~ticular tr~ailer• par•ks they serve. <br />Fahey suggested that the Council has to determine if the Fire Hall is <br />wi thi n a r•easonabl e di stance to ser•ve as a di saster• shel ter for• the <br />trailer park. Fahey also suqgested that more information was needed <br />at the State level as to maximum distances that a shelter• can be fr~om <br />the area it serves. <br />Thomas repor•ted that APAC has a~ritten to the par•k owners on this issue, <br />but have received no r•esponse. <br />Fahey repor•ted that the City received the owner's disaster• plans on <br />December lst. These plans indicate the City Hall and Fire Hall as <br />the di saster• shel ter•s for• the park. <br />Fahey agr~eed that the issues raised by the residents of the par~k with <br />r•egar•d to access difficulty to the Fire Hall and City Hall ar~e valid. <br />However•, Fahey felt the owners' input was necessary befor•e a decision <br />shoul d be macle. <br />Blesener~ felt there may be other oppor•tunities to explor•e pointing out <br />that ther~e ar~e some well-constr~ucted buildings in the area. <br />Lori Laliay, resident of the par~k, outlined not only the distance of the <br />Fir•e Hall to the park, but also access problems to the Fir~e Hall due to <br />the numer•ous stop lights. LaQay agr•eed that ther~e were also access <br />problems for the elderly, handicapped, and day care providers with many <br />young childr•en that would need to be transported to the Fir~e Hall. La6ay <br />pointed out that the City may face liability if it approves the disaster~ <br />plan of the par•k, and that plan does not wor~k. <br />Fahe,y suggested that the owners of the park be invited in to respond to <br />these issues. <br />Page -5- <br />
