MINUTES <br />City Council <br />Jan. 11, 1989 <br />School the City Attor•ney. <br />Addition <br />(Cont.l Fahey suggested that Thein and Roger Wor•ner review this agr•eement and <br />that he and Collova would be available to meet with the School Distr•ict <br />to di scuss i t. <br />Collova asked about plans to spr~inkle the existing building. <br />Thein repor•ted that only the new por•tion will be spr•inklered immediately, <br />and that a plan will be developed to sprinkle the old portion of the <br />building over~ a period of time. <br />Fahey pointed out that plans to incr•ease the size of existing par•king <br />in Spooner Par~k have been eliminated. <br />Thein agreed pointinq out that the School Distr~ict did not need this <br />parking. <br />Fahey pointed out that plans indicate par•king that would be impr~oved <br />by the City, and Fahey wantec! it clear that the City has no plans <br />for improving additional par•king in this ar~ea. <br />Thein r~eplied that he under•stands this. Thein reported that the School <br />District eliminated the additional parking because it was not needed <br />and due to the cost. <br />Blesener• pointed out the City's desire that the School District include <br />a nor•th/south walkway along the lenath of the par•king area so that <br />people using the par~king lot do not have to cut through the lot to <br />access the walkway to the school building. <br />Thein felt this suggestion could be worked out. <br />Scalze asked for an explanation of the stor•m sewer pr~oposed. <br />The City Engineer described the storm sewer improvement that is <br />pr•oposed. <br />The Engineer• also pointed out that the question of lighting of the <br />par•king area has been raised in the past discussions. <br />Thein reported that this has been discussed by the School Distr•ict. <br />The District is interested in lighting the area for many r•easons <br />including security. <br />Thein repor•ted that the School District wants to move the sur•face water~, <br />however, wants to do so as efficiently as possible. Thein asked if <br />the pipe pr~oposEd was necessary, and if a ditch would suffice. <br />The City Engineer• pointed out that a 7 foot ditch would be necessary, <br />which he felt was too deep. The Engineer• recommended that pipe be <br />installed r•ather• than a ditch. <br />Page -11- <br />
