PIINUTES
City Council
Jan. 25, 1989
Cellular One Carr~oway pointed out that the base of the tower• is not visible from
(Cont.) Noel Drive and did not believe the shelter~ would be either.
Fahey again stated that he prefer•r•ed the building on the south with
berming and screenina.
Scalze pointed out that then the building would be visible from City Hall.
Fahey pointed out that the building would impact less on the Swanson
property if it were located on the nor~th. Fahe.y felt aven if the
buildinq is on the nor•th, it should still have berming and scr•eening.
Scalze pointed out that the area is a resid.ential one with a par•k and
City Center~ adjacent and not an industrial ar•ea.
Carroway repor•ted that in doing site acquisitions for Cellular One,
he has found that mounting this equipment on water• towers has less
impact on communities than the construction of 185 foot high towers.
Carroway pointed out that water• tower•s are already in existence and
pointed out that the equipment is painted to match the tower•. The
only impact is the equipment shelter•.
Scalze asked if the micr•o-wave dish would be visible.
Carrowa,y reported that at the present time, Cellular One is not
planning to mount a micro-wave dish on the tank, but will attempt
to get underground lines to ser~ve their needs. However~, if larae
capacity lines ar~e not available, Cellular Ona would like the option
of mounting the dish. Carr•oway pointed out that the dish would be
mounted under~ the bulb of the water tower• and the antennas would be
mounted on top.
Rogers submitted a picture to the Council of a water tank with a micro-
wave dish mounted on it pointing out that the dish is painted the same
color as the tank and is not visible in the pictiare.
Carroway reported that Cellular~ One had AEC Engineer•ing, the company
which designed the water• tower, design the mountinq system for the
Cellular One equipment. Carroway showed these plans to the Council.
Carroway pointed out that there is currently a handrail and manhole
on top of the water tower•, pointing out that these are not visible.
Carroway also r•eported that, if necessar~y, Cellular One would be willing
to come up aiith a system for~ mounting the micro-wave dishes on top of
the water tower.
Blesener did not believe the dishes would be very visible under the
bulb of the tank since they would be painted the same color as the
tank.
Fahey and LaValle agreed.
alesener~ asked. if other companies would be allowed the use of Cellular~
One's equipment.
Page -4-
