MINUTES
City Council
February 8, 1989
Agenda appeared before the Council. Dan Peters informed the
Council that they were licensed recently as an independent
station in Minnesota and that they are looking for a new
home site. He stated that they have many interested Cities
in the Twin Cities area, but can not get approval from the
FAA. He said that in addition to the FCC, they need
approval from the local municipality and the FAA. They are
interested in Little Canada for the close proximity to
Shoreview. He stated that the tower for the station need
only about 3-5 acres. He also said that they can provide
net income greater than another commercial or industrial
user in the City.
Blesener asked about the soil and the construction.
Peters said that soil does not necessarily have to be good,
and that the tower is attractive. He informed the Council
of the problem with getting cleared air space from the FAA.
Scalze asked why are they asking Little Canada?
Sheldon Johnson said that because of the Airports and the
FAA regulations, they need to be a certain distance.
Peters said that Lino Lakes and Minneapolis are interested,
but they can not get clearance.
The Mayor asked what happens if the company should become
financially insolvent.
Peters said that the structure would be taken down.
Scalze wants to obtain the opinion of the economic
development person, because they want to make sure that the
City gets a quality structure.
Collova asked what section of the City were they
interested in.
Johnson said that the Knox area is appropriate.
The Mayor informed Peters that they would have to go to a
Public hearing if the Council was at all interest.
LaValle inquired about the employment.
Page 9
