MINUTES <br />City Council <br />February 8, 1989 <br />from three haulers to one hauler and if Knutson was one of <br />the original three. <br />Norman responded that a bid was not required and that <br />Knutson came in after winning a recent bid. <br />A question regarding the taking of a low bid and Mr. Norman <br />said that white Bear did take the low bid once. <br />Mayor Fahey said not to worry about a monopoly because <br />competition would take care of it. <br />Scalze commented that prices are higher in Little Canada <br />than those in White Bear Lake at present. <br />Ted Bergstrom asked about White Bear's Senior Citizen Rate. <br />Mr. Norman stated that the rate is $6.50 but you must have <br />60 gallons. <br />Bergstrom asked if White Bear included containers? <br />Mr. Norman said that containers could be leased or <br />purchased at an additional $3.00/month. <br />Sue from Bellaire Sanitation said her rate is currently <br />$12.00 with free containers. <br />Kathy Tipler informed her that she needs to add in compost <br />and recycling and that Sue had given the Committee a price <br />of $14.70. <br />The Mayor informed the haulers present that price is not <br />the only issue. <br />Blesener stated that he pays more and he supplies his own <br />container. <br />Jim Norman informed the Council that White Bear has 5 <br />routes, and 4 trucks. The fourth truck is doing <br />commercial. <br />Mayor Fahey asked if they run everyday of the week and <br />stressed: <br />1) police enforcement, <br />2) price is only one of the concerns, <br />Page 3 <br />
