MINUTES
City Council
February 8, 1989
and 3) other advantages.
Mayor Fahey said by dividing as in North St. Paul, there
could possibly be a lot of bickering between the haulers.
Sue, from Bellaire, said that they are a fairly large
hauler in North St. Paul, and they don't have that problem.
The city lets them do their own billing, use own
containers, and have a leaf program and recycling.
Scalze asked Sue about the division haulers prices set by
the City.
Sue informed the Council that the price is $9.75 for 60
gallons and $12.75 for 90 gallons. These prices do not
include compost or recycling but do include the container.
Scalze inquired about the division of haulers in North St.
Paul.
Sue said that in North St. Paul, there were nine haulers,
but now there are only four. Sue said this is because of
conditions which prevented the haulers from staying in
business.
The Mayor says that he'd rather have one good strong hauler
who makes money and does a good job for the City and
citizens of Little Canada.
Sue says that five haulers are presently in Little Canada.
She stressed that if her account in Little Canada was lost
she would have to take her carts and go elsewhere. Sue
charges $12.o0/month (with containers) in Little Canada
presently. She said other haulers include containers.
Sue discussed that there were nine haulers willing to
accept the division system.
The Mayor said that the Council is not obligated to support
5-6 haulers, if there is a more costly and less efficient
way for citizens. He said he does not want four haulers
running all over the City. He wants the haulers to make a
proposal.
A comment was made that the oil trucks should be regulated
on the streets as well as the garbage trucks.
Page 4
