MINUTES
City Council
July 27, 19II9
Fire Hall Mr. Hanson indicated that he did speak to the ladies on the
(conte) Maryhouse property to ask them if their property might be
available. htr, ~Ianson stated that all five women
unanimously said that it was not available at the present
time.
Mr. xanson reported that the reason that a new Fire ~Iall is
needed is that the floors o£ the current Fiall can no longer
support the caeight of the new heavier fire trucks, plus
there are nev~ rules and regulations which are being handed
down to rire Departments on updating and upgrading of Fire
xalls.
Mrs. Scalze asked if the Committee ever consider~d using the
existing Eire Hall as a sub-station. Mr. Hanson indicated
that the Committee decided that the City is not in need of
two stations. Mr. Graczyk felt that if the Department
wanted to increase their response time, it could be done by
adding personnel to the station. Mr. Graczyk stated that
the City is not big enough for two stations. Mr. Fahey also
stated that the present Fire Hall is not adequate in size.
Mr. Graczyk reported that the highest level of residences is
in the southwest quarter of the City due to a11 of the
multiple family dwellings. Mr. Graczyk stated that he timed
the travel from the Swanson site, the current Fire Hall
site, and the Centerville Road site to the centralized
multiple family dwelling area (Canabury Drive) in the
southwest quarter of the City. His findings were that the
Centerville Road si~e was the most favorable as far as
response time.
Mr, Graczyk stated that most of the firemen live north,
south, and west o£ the Centerville Road site. ~Iardly any
men live east of that site. t9r. Graczyk indicated that the
Centerville Road site will also a11ow the Fire Department to
exit onto a four-lane road versus a two-lane road. He £elt
that this was important due to the size of the trucks.
Mr, Graczyk stated that the ideal area for a fire hall would
be in the Grumpy's/Gordie's Bar area; however, some oP the
properties would have to be condemned and there are existing
businesses located in the area so the Committee felt that
this site would not be appropriate,
Page 2
