Grittman also gave a report on response tirnes from each <br />of the sites, The City Hall site from an insurance <br />standpoint ~oould be the least desirable. The Centerville <br />Road and Jackson Street sites were pretty comparable. <br />Mr. Fahey sta~ed that he talked to the Attorney regarding <br />the requirements for a reEerendum to pay for the Fire Hall. <br />The Attorney indicated that a resolution must be adopted <br />specifying the public purpose for which the funds are going <br />to be used and the approximate cost asking the residents to <br />vote on the matter. Two weeks notice is all that is <br />required to authorize and hold a referendum vote on <br />whichever site the City selects. <br />Pir. Fahey indicated that reliable estimates on the cost of <br />construction could be obtained from architects on a per <br />square foot basis. Mr. Grittman stated that Short, Elliott, <br />Hendrickson has estimated a range of construction costs from <br />551-83 per square foot averaging a little less than $70, and <br />for a 12,000 square foot facility the cost would be <br />5829,000. Mr. Fahey requested that Mr. Grittman put the <br />figures down in writing for the file. <br />Mr. Graczyk stated that their current fire operation is very <br />cumbersome, so he hoped that the City would move along with <br />the plans for a new Fire fIall, <br />Pdrs, Scalze asked about the size of the new Fire Hall. <br />Mr. Blesener stated that 10,000 square feet was originally <br />discussed. <br />Mr. Dick Boss, a member of the Fire Department, stated that <br />the Committee looked at all the sites without considering <br />cost to come to their conclusion. They felt that the <br />Centerville Road site would best serve the public> <br />P~r. Collova asked if there would be a problem with the depth <br />of the property for building at the Centerville Road site. <br />P9r, Blesener indicated that the v7ater Works drop off is not <br />as bad as it looks and the City does own some of the <br />property behind the site; therefore, he felt that there <br />would be no problem. <br />Page 3 <br />
