MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
September 6, 1989
Scalze pointed out that organized collection is saving
homeowners a lot of money and is resulting in decreased
trash bills for homeowners.
The Council discussed the issue of organized collection
at further length with Mr. Aerkenhoff pointing out that
it will assist the City in meeting its trash abatement
goals.
Council also discussed at length the City's dumpster
and the Public Works Superintendent's recommendation to
eliminate the dumpster as of the first of the year.
The Superintendent is also recommending that the
dumpster be retained on a monthly basis for the
remainder of 1989. The Superintendent reported on the
abuses of the dumpster wherein people are illegally
using the dumpster after hours.
Council noted the majority of surrounding cities do not
provide a dumpster, but have opted for spring and fall
clean-up days.
The Public Works Superintendent suggested that the City
have either a spring or fall clean-up rather than the
monthly dumpster. The Superintendent suggested that he
work out the details of such a clean-up and report baok
to the Council with his recommendation.
Council agreed that given the abuses of the City
dumpster, and the fact that the City has organized
collection in place, that the dumpster should be
eliminated.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 89-9-427 - APPROVING THE DISCONTINUANCE
OF THE CITY DUMPSTER EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 1989
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr.
Blesener.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Blesener, Collova, LaValle, Fahey.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey requested that a notice be put on the City's
Cable TV channel regarding the elimination of the
dumpster.
Page 18
