MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 12, 1989 <br />Council approved the Storm Sewer and Street Lighting <br />portions of the 1990 Budget as submitted. <br />The next portion of the budqet reviewed was <br />Sanitation. Fahey suggested that an amount be included <br />in the budget to cover a possible City subsidy for <br />disabled people who are unable to get their trash to <br />the curb. Fahey pointed out that the haulers provide <br />at-the-door service for an additional charqe. <br />It was the concensus of the Council to include an <br />additional $2,500 in the Budget to cover a possible <br />subsidy for the disabled. <br />The Council discussed other possible exemptions to <br />organized collection, and instructed the staff to <br />determine what other cities with organized collection <br />have done in the instance of a property owner who takes <br />an extended vacation. The Council also wanted <br />clarification on the County's position that commercial <br />and residential trash should not be mixed. <br />Council approved the Sanitation portion of the proposed <br />budget with a$2,500 increase bringing the bottom line <br />to $8,900. <br />Council reviewed and approved the Recycling and City <br />Garage portions of the proposed 1990 Budget. <br />Next reviewed was the Community Services portion of the <br />budget with discussion focusing on Canadian Days. <br />Annette Freeman suggested budqeting an amount for <br />compensation for Canadian Days volunteers. <br />Council discussed this suggestion and the concensus was <br />to budget $2,400 for Canadian Days salaries. The <br />Council felt that the City could compensate two <br />organizers of Canadian Days at a rate of $100 per <br />month. With that addition, the Community Services <br />portion of the proposed Budget was approved. <br />Council reviewed and approved the Shade Tree category <br />of the proposed Budget. <br />Council began a review of the proposed Park and <br />Recreation categories of the Budget. The Recreation <br />Director submitted revised budget information for the <br />Council to review. <br />Page 7 <br />
