MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
September 13, 1989
in City government. However, Fahey pointed out that
this topic has been extensively discussed and
communicated.
Art Aerkenhoff, Edgerton Street, stated that he feels
every resident should have the right to chose their own
garbage hauler. Herkenhoff felt that if there was
concern about the wear and tear on City streets due to
the garbage haulers, the issue of truck and
construction traffic should be addressed as well.
Herkenhoff suggested that the Council give senior
citizens who generate little garbage a reduced rate.
Herkenhoff was concerned about the fees that the
haulers are charging. Herkenhoff also suggested that
the City consider having an annual free dump day for
citizens of Little Canada.
Fahey reported that Public Works is putting together a
plan for a dump day, however, there are concerns about
policing such a program.
Tracy George was concerned that Bellaire did not
provide cans for 30-gallon service.
Sue from Bellaire stated that this was correct. The
smallest can that their trucks can handle is a
60-gallon can. xowever, Sue pointed out that if
residents wish to purchase a garbage can and place
their 30-gallon bag in it, the haulers will empty that
can. However, the smallest size can the arms of a
Bellaire truck can pick up is the 60-gallon size.
Buche asked if apartments are required to go to
organized collection.
Fahey reported
businesses has
be shortly.
Scalze also po
year State Law
collected with
the County has
brush and will
that the issue of apartments and
not be addressed as yet, however, will
Lnted out that after the first of the
will not allow wood or grass to be
residential trash. Scalze reported that
not addressed the issue of wood and
have to do so shortly.
Blackford reported that a local city is giving a$2
credit to those people who recycle.
Blesener thought that practice would be eliminated by
the first of the year.
Page 10
