MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
September 13, 1989
Casey felt that Woodlake should be required to provide
cans.
Fahey agreed that the concern was legitimate and one
the City should look at long-term. Fahey suggested
that if the vast majority of the City indicate that
they prefer the service provided by Bellaire, then
perhaps the City should request that Woodlake upgrade
their service. However, Fahey pointed out that the
City will have a three-year contract with the haulers,
and this issue is one that should be studied during
that time period.
Collova pointed out that the City has a Solid Waste
Advisory Committee which will be studying issues such
as a City composting site. Collova suggested that the
Committee consider the issued raised by Casey as well.
Collova also pointed out that there are vacancies on
that Committee.
Scalze reported that she has received calls from
residents who do not like the service provided by
Woodlake. However, she has also received calls from
people who prefer Woodlake over Bellaire.
Bill Buche, Park Street, stated that he prefers the
service Bellaire provides to Woodlake's service. Buche
also reported that he was never informed that the City
was going to an organized collection system until he
received an invoice from Woodlake. Buche reported that
he, too, was treated rudely when he phone Bellaire
about the matter. Buche stated that if he is paying
for trash collection service, it is his feeling that he
should be able to choose his trash hauler.
Fahey informed Buche that the City Council has dediced
to go to organized collection, and the Council will not
change their position on this issue.
Scalze also informed Buche that there were numerous
things done to inform residents of the switch to
organized collection. Several mailings were made to
all residents in the City as well as articles placed in
the City's newspaper and newsletter.
Buche again stated that he never received a notice.
Fahey pointed out that unless a matter directly effects
a property owner, property owners take little interest
Page 9
