Fahey pointed out that some cities
subsidize trash collection costs for senior citizens,
and suggested that the City Council consider doing so
for senior citizens that are below
Federally-established poverty levels.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved
its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 89-9-435 - INSTRUCTING TAE PUBLIC WORKS
SUPERINTENDENT TO MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO THE CITY
COUNCIL ON THE ISSUE OF SUBSIDIZED TRASH COLLECTION FOR
SENIOR CITIZENS GENERATING VERY LITTLE TRASH AND WHO
ARE BELOW FEDERALLY-ESTABLISHED INCOME LEVELS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr.
LaValle.
Ayes (5j Fahey, LaValle, Scalze, Blesener, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
Blesener again reported that the Public Works
Superintendent will discuss the issue of trash service
to the Ducharme, Reed and Ames properties.
Fahey stated that pending receipt and approval of
applications for exemptions, the charqes billed by the
haulers will remain as is.
RECESS At this point in the meeting, 9:05 P.M., Council took a
short recess. The meeting was reconvened at 9:10 P.M.
REFUSE The City Attorney reported that he has the final draft
SERVICE of the refuse service contract from the various
CONTRACT attorneys involved. The City Attorney stated that he
has reviewed the contract and recommends approval
subject to the changes that he has outlined in his
letter dated August 31, 1989.
Sue from Bellaire requested that the haulers have an
opportunity to review the suggested chanqes prior to
City approval.
Page 13
