2025 Public Works Projects:
Street Improvement Project – Stoneridge Court, Maple Leaf Court, Nadeau Road, and
County Road D from Greenbrier to Highway 61 will be reconstructed. Bolton & Menk is
leading all four projects and another smooth construction season is anticipated.
County Road B Lift Station – The lift station is basically at capacity as things stand right
now. The possible addition of the Lupe apartment project means the lift station will not be
able to handle peak flows. Bolton & Menk has put a plan together to replace some of the
incoming pipes, replace the force main that crosses Highway 36, and make changes to the
lift station and wet well to enable the handling of more flow.
Maple Leaf Court Pond Cleanout – the Maple Leaf Court pond will be cleaned out in the
coming weeks by a contractor working for the Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed
District (RWMWD). The RWMWD has an annual pond cleanout program that cities within
the district can participate in. The District handles all testing of materials, project plans
and specifications, project management, and inspection, and cities pay for the work on their
respective ponds. It saves staff a lot of time and effort and some economies of scale are
achieved when numerous ponds are included in the project.
Booster Station Controls – The control panel at the Booster Station requires an upgrade to
newer technology. One of the Public Works staff has vast experience in controls and will
be able to assist in the upgrade.
Country Drive/Little Canada Road/County Road C/35E Interchange – This will be another
year when no physical work takes place but it will be a very busy year for Bolton & Menk
as it puts the plans and specifications together. That will include possible easement and
right-of-way acquisitions and coordination with numerous outside entities including
utilities, St. Paul Regional Water Services, MnDOT, Ramsey County, and others.
2025 Parks Projects:
Thunder Bay Trail Boardwalk Connection – In coordination with the City of Maplewood,
the Thunder Bay Boardwalk is due for replacement. It is currently in disrepair. Staff is
working closely with Bolten and Menk to acquire grant funding to cover up to $250,000 of
this project. Maplewood is covering 50% of the consulting services and 40% of the project
costs. Little Canada is covering 50% of the consulting services and 60% of the project cost.
These percentages reflect the amount of boardwalk on city property and are the same
percentages used in the initial 2008 project.
Pioneer Park Vegetation Restoration and Stormwater Improvements – Initially identified
in the Pioneer Park Phase 1 Masterplan, the Vegetation Restoration and Stormwater
improvements at Pioneer Park cover the Northern section of the park. The concept that
was selected was a complete scrub of unwanted vegetation, replacement with native
species, and installation of a pond system. This concept is most attractive because of its
sustainable attributes. It would accept water feature discharge into the pondage system that
would then link to the irrigation reuse pond. An open house for this project took place on
January 21st at City Hall.
Veterans Memorial Park Bubbler System Replacement – Full replacement of the current
basin/water collection system to a concrete system. The system installed in 2021 has
failed and is unable to hold water properly, causing the large wall blocks to be pushed out
from their original placement. The new system should hold or displace water properly to
avoid any damage or maintenance issues in the near future.
