MINUTES CITY COUNCIL September 27, 1989 The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. LaValle. Ayes (5) Collova, LaValle, Blesener, Fahey, Scalze. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. UNDERWOOD Blesener reported that Mr. and Mrs. Scott Underwood, REQUEST FOR 876 Windrow Drive, have requested an exemption from EXEMPTION organized collection since they own a business at which ORGANIZED they have trash collection. The business is outside COLLECTION the City, however, just on the other side of the City's boundary line. Blesener reported that he has spoken with Mrs. Underwood and explained the City's position on not allowinq exemptions for residents who have businesses outside the City. Council agreed that the exemption should only be allowed £or residents who have businesses within the City. Blesener reported that he will contact Mrs. Underwood and inform her that the Council's position remains the same, however, indicated that Mrs. Underwood may request to appear at the October llth Council meeting. 1990 BUDGET Blesener noted that at the September 26th Budget Workshop meeting, the Council decided not to budget for the purchase of a street sweeper during 1990, however, wished to increase the street sweeping portion of the budget to allow for City streets to be swept two or three times during the year. Blesener suqqested that since the budget included some additional money to cover the cost of an additional Public Works employee, and such an employee may not be added during 1990, the Budget could be adjusted to move some of the money for salary for an additional employee into the street sweepinq portion of the budget. CELEBRATE MN Scalze reported that Bill 5anders has contacted the Highway Department with regard to his recommendation for replacinq the chain-link fence on the Little Canada Road bridge with a decorative wrought-iron fence. However, at this time there has been no response from the Highway Department. PAGE 39
