MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
October 11, 1989
PUBLIC Fahey opened the public hearing to consider the
HEARING applications submitted by Slumberland for plan review
SLUMBERLAND for a new addition and conditional use permit for
PLAN REVIEW outside storage of semi-trailers at 3060 Centerville
& CUP Road.
FOR OUTSIDE
STORAGE Mr. Jack Welsh, representing Yorkton Ltd., appeared
before the Council and reported that all items of
concerned raised by the Planning Commission have been
dealt with except for the concrete.
Fahey asked if the plan was to crush the concrete on
site for.use as base under the parking lot.
Welsh replied that this was correct, Welsh reported
that a grinder would not be used to crush the concrete,
but rather it would be broken up into smaller pieces by
driving construction equipment over it. When that is
done, the concrete would be used as a sub-base under
the parking lot to provide a bridge between the soft
materials on the site and the parking lot base.
Fahey asked when the materials would be placed.
Welsh replied that the parking lot construction would
occur in conjunction with the building addition
project, and hopefully, the sub-base and base of the
parking lot would be placed this fall. Aowever, Welsh
did not anticipate paving the parking lot until the
spring.
Fahey asked about plans for screening the outside
storage.
Welsh submitted to the Council a proposed landscaping
and screening plan which will screen the truck-parking
area. Welsh described this plan in detail.
Scalze asked how many semi-trailers were involved.
Paul Kaufman, representing Slumberland, replied that
Slumberland has about 8 semi-trailers, and stores
semi-trailers for 2 to 3 vendors. Kaufman anticipated
a maximum of 12 to 14 trailers on the site at one time.
The Planner pointed out that the plan shows a parking
area of 9 bays for semi-trucks.
Page 4
