MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
October 11, 1989
Fahey stated that the parking of semi-trailers should
be an expected use in an industrial area. Aowever,
Fahey stated that his concern was how the storage area
would be screened from adjacent residential areas.
Scalze asked for a definition of storage.
Kaufman replied that the semi-trailers would be parked
on the site over-night.
The City Planner reported that the Code does not
restrict the amount of time that the semi-trailers
could be stored. The Planner also reported that the
Code allows for outside storage equal to 75% of the
floor area of the building by conditional use permit,
and this proposal is within those guidelines.
Welsh reported that there will be an almost daily
turn-over of semi-trailers on the site, however, since
an outgoing trailer will be replaced with an incoming
trailer, there may appear to be no change.
LaValle asked if the trailers will be used for outside
storage.
Kaufman replied that there will be no merchandise
stored in the trailers.
Kaufman then described the landscape plan, pointing out
that 44 pine trees are proposed on the east side of the
building. These trees are proposed to be between 5 and
7 feet in height. There are 24 trees proposed to
screen the semi-truck storage area from Centerville
Road. The trees are proposed to be planted in a double
row, 12 feet on center.
Fahey asked if Slumberland is willing to post a bond
for the landscaping.
Kaufman replied that Slumberland would post a bond.
Kaufman reported that he is open to any suggestions for
changes to the location of the landscaping.
Fahey suggested that the Building Inspector and City
Planner can work with Slumberland on the placement of
the landscaping.
Scalze asked what the setback of Slumberland's future
addition would be from DeSoto.
Page 5
