MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
October 11, 1989
Hyland pointed out that the berm was part of the
original approval. Hyland was concerned that the
landscapinq proposed would not hide the view of the
trailer parking area from the homes on Centerville
Road.
Fahey stated that he was not in favor of requirinq the
trailer-parking area to be screened from the homes on
Centerville Road pointing out that these homes are in
an industrial area and are non-conforming uses.
However, Fahey felt the parking area should be screened
from the residential area to the east. Fahey asked
when the landscaping would be installed.
Kaufman replied that the landscaping would not be done
until spring, however, Slumberland would put up a bond
to guarantee that the work was done.
Fahey felt that requiring a landscaped berm along the
east property line and around the south side of the
building was not unreasonable. Fahey also felt that a
bond should be required for the landscaping. Fahey
indicated that the berm should extend as far north as
the last residential home to the east of the
Slumberland building.
Kaufman pointed out that if a berm is required, a
double row of trees would not be feasible, however, the
length of the berm could be extended and the line of
trees spread out further.
Fahey agreed, and suggested that the City Planner work
with Slumberland on the landscaping plan. Fahey asked
if the City could require larger trees than 5 to 7
feet.
The City Planner replied that most nurseries do not
have much larqer stock than 5 to 7 foot evergreens.
Hyland asked about clean up of the site.
Vitale reported that the majority of the debris has
been cleaned up and only the concrete is on the site
along with a dump truck.
Kaufman replied that the dump truck belongs to Larry
Lee, and he will contract Lee about removal of the
truck. The concrete will be broken down and used for
sub-base under the parking lot.
Page 8
