MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
October 25, 1989
The Council pointed out that at the time Sylvan Street
was improved, the Council indicated that it would
approve a variance for the property for lot width and
lot area so that it would be divided. The resulting
lot would be just under the minimum lot width and area
required by Code. However, Mr. McTeague did not wish
to divide his property.
Degal again stated that he opposed the proposal as he
did not believe it would fit into the area.
John Gangl, 2560 Sylvan, opposed the garage as he did
not feel it would fit into the area. Gangl did not
believe there was room to move the garage back any
significant distance.
Steve Braun, 2545 Sylvan, opposed the garage because of
aesthetic conoerns, and felt that the garage sitting on
the lot would downvalue the adjacent properties.
There was no one else from the general public present
wishing to speak on this matter.
Upon motion by Blesener, seconded by Scalze, the public
hearing was closed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 89-10-517 - DENYING THE CONDITIONAL USE
PERMIT REQUESTED BY TERRY MCTEAGUE, 2565 STARK STREET,
FOR ACCESSORY GARAGE IN REAR YARD ABUTTING SYLVAN
STREET BASED ON THE OBJECTIONS OF THE SYLVAN STREET
PROPERTY OWNERS AND BECAUSE THE LOT IS A
DOUBLE-FRONTING LOT, AND IT WAS THE OPINION OF THE
COUNCIL TxAT THE GARAGE FRONTING ON SYLVAN STREET WOULD
NOT FIT INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AESTHETICALLY
The foregoinq resolution was duly seconded by Mrs.
Scalze.
Ayes (4) Blesener, Scalze, Collova, LaValle.
Nays (1) Fahey.
Resolution declared adopted.
Fahey stated that he did not support denial and felt
that the garage should be allowed, provided that
McTeague paid the street portion of the assessments for
Sylvan Street. Fahey felt that the garage could be
made to conform in appearance with the existing
neighborhood.
Page 7
