MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
December 27, 1989
COUNTRY DR. The City Administrator pointed out that financing of
& CITY CENTER the Country Drive upgrade will be finalized based on
FINANCING discussion earlier this evening.
With regard to the financing of a City Center
expansion, the Administrator reviewed his report dated
December 22, 1989 pointing out that the key concern is
that there are other planned uses of the monies
identified as sources of financing.
Scalze stated that she would like to see a total cost
of the City Center expansion, including cost of parking
area.
Blesener reported that the Committee studying the
expansion determined that due to the cost of acquiring
additional property at the fire station site, it would
not be feasible to have a fire station/city center
combination. The recommendation of the Committee is to
continue with the remodeling plans of the present City
Center. Blesener also reported that the Committee
chose one of the concepts put together by Boarman &
Associates, and that concept is the most economical of
the three presented.
Blesener reported that Boarman is currently doing site
elevations in order to determine what the front of the
City Center would look like, as well as putting
together cost comparisons.
Fahey pointed out that blacktopping could be done at a
later date.
Scalze reported that she would like to know the cost of
bricking the building, and asked if that would
necessitate a reroofing as well.
Fahey suggested that the Committee come back with this
information for the Council's consideration.
Scalze asked if the cost of the new fire station could
be decreased if the building were two-story rather than
single-story.
Fahey stated that the City has to give the Fire
Department some direction, and commented that if a
good, functional fire station can be constructed for
$65 per square foot with roof-top units, rather than
basement units, that is what should be done.
Page 25
