MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
January 24, 1990
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Collova.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Collova, Blesener, LaValle, Scalze.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
1990 CENSUS The Council discussed appointment of a citizens
committee for publication of the 1990 Census. Earlier
in the 1989 the City advertised for citizens interested
in serving on such a committee and responses were
received from five citizens: Ann Nelson, Bob Menge,
Phyllis Kendig, Lorainne Pelton and Sharon Timmons.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 90-1-44 - ACCEPTING THE NAMES OF
CITIZENS INTERESTED IN SERVING ON A COMPLETE COUNT
COMMITTEE FOR PUBLICATION OF THE 1990 CENSUS AND
INSTRUCTING STAFF TO INFORM THESE CITIZENS OF THEIR
APPOINTMENT AND SCHEDULE THE NECESSARY MEETINGS OF THE
COMMITTEE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Collova.
Ayes (5) Scalze, Collova, Blesener, LaValle, Fahey,
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
NORTH STAR The Administrator reviewed the County staff's
ESTATES recommendation and portions of the minutes of the
STORM County Board with regard to funding construction
SHELTER of a storm shelter at the North Star Estates Mobilehome
Park through Community Development Block Grant funds.
Hanson pointed out that it was the staff's sentiment
not to fund the project through CDBG funds since there
was ability on the part of the park owners to finance
the project themselves although the costs would be
passed on to the residents of the mobilehome park.
However, the door was not completely closed on the
project, and Hanson pointed out the Board's discussion
on the possibility of funding should the City own the
storm shelter.
It was pointed out that the next funding cycle for CDBG
funds would be July of 1990, therefore, the City could
not hope for funding for construction of the project
during 1990 due to timing issues.
Scalze suggested that the parties that lobbied the City
for construction of the storm shelter may want to lobby
the County Board.
Page 21
