MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
March 28, 1990
Arkell asked if there were other sites within the City
which the Council would consider for this proposal with
Arkell pointing out that two smaller sites would be
acceptable if one larger site was not available,
It was pointed out that the property being discussed is
zoned B-3 adjacent to Little Canada Road, with Fahey
commenting that he did not know the neighborhood
reaction to senior housing on only this portion of
property. It was also pointed out that there may be a
site near the Venetian Inn that might interest Mr.
Arkell.
Blesener pointed out that he would like to see
additional senior housing on the site adjacent to
Garden Terrace, however, pointed out that the property
is not large enough for the number of units Mr. Arkell
is proposing.
Again Mr. Arkell stated that he would be interested in
two smaller sites. It was pointed out that the land
adjacent to Garden Terrace is currently under option,
however, if that option is not renewed, The Cottages
would approach the owner.
Blesener stated that he would not vote to approve the
development of 100 units on the site adjacent to Garden
Terrace.
Arkell stated that the concensus that he is hearing is
that the City would be interested in the proposal if
adequate land can be found.
Scalze pointed out that the proposal submitted to the
Jackson Street property owners a few years ago was for
senior apartments. Scalze stated that she was not sure
how the neighbors would feel about the development
proposal that Mr. Arkell is proposing,
Fahey stated that if Little Canada residents could be
given priority for occupancy, the City would be more
receptive to the proposal.
Arkell replie~
Little Canada
efforts could
Collova asked
assistance is
i that there is no legal way to give
residents priority, however, marketing
be targeted to Little Canada residents.
what happens to the units after TIF
no longer provided.
Page 18
