MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
March 28, 1990
SUBJECT TO TAE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY PLANNER AS
CONTAINED IN HIS MARCH 5, 1990 REPORT AND BASED ON THE
RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Blesener, Collova, Fahey.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
SLUMBERLAND Mayor Fahey opened the Public Hearinq to consider the
CUP FOR application submitted by Slumberland, 3060 Centerville
ACCESSORY Road, for a conditional use permit for accessory retail
RETAIL SALES sales. Fahey noted that the Planning Commission voted
5 to 2 recommending approval of the conditional use
permit. Fahey reviewed the City Planner's report dated
March 5, 1990 recommending approval.
Scalze asked if customers to the designated retail
sales area would be allowed access to the warehouse
area. Scalze's concern was the Slumberland would
conduct large warehouse liquidation sales similar to
what some other retailers do.
Paul Kaufman, representing Slumberland, stated that it
was not their intention to conduct large liquidation
sales, however, stated that occasionally customers
might be brought into the warehouse area to look at a
particular piece of stock. Kaufman also reported that
customers would be picking up their merchandise from
the dock area. Therefore, Kaufman stated that he could
not guarantee that there would never be customers in
the warehouse area.
Blesener asked if the proposal was consistent with the
original plan for a retail sales area submitted at the
time the Slumberland project received City approval.
Kaufman replied that it was.
Fahey asked if Slumberland would expand the parking lot
as referenced in the City Planner's report.
Kaufman replied that at this time Slumberland does not
feel the additional parking is necessary since they
anticipate limited amounts of traffic. Kaufman
reported that Slumberland's clearance centers in other
cities have about 50 cars to each center per week, with
half of those cars visiting the center during evening
weekday hours and the other half on the weekend.
Page 3
