MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
May 23, 1990
TO THE REQUIREMENT OF DRAINAGE AND UTILITY EASEMENTS AS
DETERMINED NECESSARY BY THE CITY ENGINEER, AND SUBJECT
TO WHATEVER IS NEEDED TO FILE AND RECORD THE
SUBDIVISION AS DETERMINED BY THE CITY ATTORNEY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Blesener, Collova, Fahey.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
REZONING Fahey opened the Public Hearing to consider the
2700 RICE request of Paul and Susan Haram for rezoning of their
STREET - property located at 2700 Rice Street from R-1 to B-3.
HARAM Fahey pointed out that the Planning Commission
PROPERTY recommended that the property be rezoned to B-1 rather
than B-3.
Norm Osland, Iona Lane resident, asked how the rezoning
will effect the future use of the property.
Fahey reported that by rezoning the property to B-1,
the existing property use would be in conformance with
the zoning. The use is currently non-conforming under
the R-1 zoning. Fahey pointed out that the Haram's are
refinancing their property, and the bank has.requested
that the zoninq reflect the actual use of the property.
The Haram's have indicated that there will be no change
in the occupancy of the property.
The City Planner read the list of permitted uses under
a B-1 zoning.
Osland expressed concern about the traffic on Rice
Street and the difficulty of Iona Lane residents to get
onto that street. Osland was concerned about the
possibility of a convenience store locatinq on the
property and pointed out that there are already five
businesses located in the Haram property.
Fahey pointed out that Rice Street is a commercial
street. Fahey did not believe the rezoning of the
Haram property to B-1 would make the situation any
worse.
Mr. Gregory, Iona Lane resident, asked the City to
protect the Iona Lane area.
Fahey felt it unrealistic to expect that the Haram
property would remain zoned residential since it is
located on a commercial street. Fahey pointed out that
Page 4
