MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 12, 1990
CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S DISCUSSION WITH THE KANDICE
HEIGHTS DEVELOPERS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Fahey, Scalze, Collova, Blesener, LaValle.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
MULTI-FAMILY Dave Harris, Superintendent of Public Works, appeared
RECYCLING before the Council to review his report dated September
12, 1990 on multi-family recycling. Harris reported on
the County's plans to cease funding in the area of
recycling some time during 1991, and the City's need to
have a long-term funding program in effect at the time
County funding ceases. Harris also reported that there
is the immediate possibility that County funding to the
City in the area of recycling will be cut by 36%.
Harris also reported on the need for the City to put in
place a recycling program for rental and condominium
units within the City. Harris reported that the City
was approximately 20 tons short of its abatement goals,
and by including apartment and condo units in the
City's recycling program, those goals can be easily
met.
Fahey suggested that City staff ineet with the apartment
owners, condominium associations, and haulers to put
together a recommsndation for a multi-family recycling
program.
Council agreed and it was also suggested that the
Recycling Committee be reactivated including any
apartment owners or representatives of condominium
associations on that Committee who would be interested.
It was suggested that the County may have information
on the issue of multiple-family recycling that could be
utilized by the Committee. LaValle also suggested that
other cities having such programs in effect be
contacted for their input.
Harris indicated that he would like the City to put a
multiple-family recycling program in effect by January
lst, and he will work with the Recycling Committee as
well as multiples and come back wo the Council with a
recommendation.
Page 15
