MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 12, 1990
information provided by the Auditor. The Auditor had
pointed out that if an increase schedule were
established, the increase amount would be known rather
than have to be negotiated every year. Blesener
anticipated that there would be a number of retirements
from the Fire Department in the next 4 to 5 years
resulting in a great deal of money being taken out of
the Relief Fund. Blesener had concern that the fund
would not be able to sustain itself with the amount of
money that would be left.
DeBace replied that future retirements are figured into
fund projections.
Blesener pointed out that the benefits of firemen with
20 to 25 years of service are self-generating, however,
the benefits oF firemen with only 5 years of service,
for example, do not generate enough on their own. It
is those funds that need help from State Aid and City
contributions. Blesener agreed that the Fund would
only balance if the City continued to make a
contribution.
Scalze asked if proceeds for charitable gambling are
figured into required projected funds.
DeBace replied that that was correct. In 1986 when the
Fire Department became involved in charitable gambling
that decision was made, and to his knowledge that
decision has not been changed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 90-9-409 - APPROVING THE INCREASE OF
FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION BENEFITS FROM $1,600 PER
YEAR OF SERVICE TO $1,800 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE
FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION PENSION BOARD
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (4) Blesener, LaValle, Collova, Scalze.
Nays (0).
Abstains (1) Fahey.
Resolution declared adopted.
FIRE STATION/ Mr. Jim Beckwith, Kraus-Anderson, appeared before the
CITY CENTER Council to finalize bid awards on the new Fire Station
BIDS and City Center expansion projects. Beckwith submitted
to the Council a revised Bid Results document dated
Page 3
