MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 12, 1990
SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 1991 SUBJECT TO THERE BEING NO SALE OF
PULL-TABS BY THE LIONS CLUB AT THIS EVENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Blesener, Collova, Fahey, Scalze.
Nays (o).
Resolution declared adopted.
INSURANCE Fahey reviewed the City Administrator's letter dated
December 12th regarding designation of the City's
insurance agent for 1991.
Mr. David Seppelt, American Agency, Inc. appeared
before the Council outlining his interest in being
designated as the City's insurance agent and the
efforts he would undertake to lower the City's
insurance costs.
Scalze pointed out that the City currently has their
coverage through the League of Minnesota Cities,
pointing out that the League provided this insurance
when there was no other alternative for cities.
Seppelt reported that currently the League insures
about 90% of the cities. Seppelt suggested that in
addition to looking at the City's coverage through the
League, there are at least two insurance companies
offering coverages to cities. Seppelt suqqested that
all these options be investigated.
The Administrator reported that the issue before the
Council is whether or not to change insurance agents.
The Administrator reported that he had previously asked
the City's insurance agent to investigate coverage
options for the City, and minimal information was
provided.
Fahey pointed out that the City has not solicited
insurance agents, but that American Agency has taken
the initiative to contact the City.
The Administrator reported that he has checked Mr.
Seppelt's references and the City of Columbia Heights
indicated that Mr. Seppelt was most aggressive and did
the best job as insurance agent for the City based on
their experience.
Fahey commented that it was his feeling that the City
has not gotten the service it deserved in the past from
its present insurance agent.
The Administrator reported that during the past year
the City realized a savings of $5,000 in workers'
Page 14
