MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
February 27, 1991
The City Ad~inistrator reported that Public Works feels
~~s,.. .
that the Me4~~een-piece--of eqa-ipment is preferable since
it has a two-foot wider mowing width and a zero-turning
radius.
LaValle felt that the $4,000 difference between the
McQueen bid and the low bid was too large and felt that
the purchase should be rebid.
Scalze stated that she would support the purchase from
McQueen due to the wider cut of that mower as well as
the zero-turning radius.
Mr. Blesener introduced the followinq resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 91-2-77 - ACCEPTING AND AWARDING THE LOW
BID OF MCQUEEN EQUIPMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,500 FOR
THE PURCHASE OF A HUSTLER MOWER BASED ON THE
RECOMMENDATION OF TIIE PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by 5calze.
Ayes (3) Blesener, Scalze, Collova.
Nays (1) LaValle.
Resolution declared adopted.
FIELD Jim Morelan, Parks and Recreation Director, reported
MAINTENANCE that a couple of months ago he was asked to review
FEES what neighboring cities are charging for the use of
ballfields by adult teams. Morelan stated that he has
done this, but pointed out that most other cities have
full-time park and recreation staff that provide many
more services to adult leagues than Little Canada does
with its part-time staff. These other cities provide
adult leagues registration services, scheduling, field
maintenance, and officials as part of the fee they
charge. Little Canada merely provides fields. Morelan
reported that based on only providing maintained fields
to adult teams, he is recommending a$50 fee per adult
team. These teams would continue to be responsible for
their own registration, scheduling and officials.
Scalze felt that in years to come the City may get more
involved in the area of adult leagues, however, the
City's present system does not allow for the type of
administration that other cities with full-time staffs
are doing.
The Council discussed non-resident use of the City's
ballfields, and Morelan reported that the current teams
Page 12
