MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 22, 1991
Steve Morelan felt that, at best, Little Canada's youth
program was adequate, and pointed out Jim Morelan's
comments in his letter that the City has been in a
reactive mode. Steve Morelan pointed out that the City
has not addressed adult recreation. The demand is
there and the City has the facilities, however, there
is no one to program them.
Blesener felt that Roseville would proqram Little
Canada's facilities, but to the benefit of Roseville.
Blesener pointed out that a full-time Director would be
available to work with the School District and other
cities.
Jim Morelan stated that there is currently cooperation
between the cities. However, that cooperation could be
enhanced with a full-time Director that was available
during day-time hours.
Wehrle asked if Maplewood had been contacted to
determine if they are interested in contracting our
recreation program.
The City Administrator reported that Maplewood is
interested, however, they were not asked to provide any
detail until it could be determined if this was
something that Little Canada was interested in.
Jim Morelan stated that he foresaw problems no matter
which city was involved. Morelan stated that the
cities have a good working relationship between them
now, Little Canada has its identify, and currently
participates in Maplewood's leagues.
Blesener stated that if the City contracted with anyone
for providing recreational services, he thought it
should be Roseville because it is closer and part of
the same school district.
The City Administrator noted that from the standpoint
of identify, if the City contracted with Roseville,
Little Canada teams would remain Little Canada teams,
but would become a part of Roseville's leagues.
Roseville indicated that it would program Little Canada
facilities as Little Canada facilities first, with
Roseville filling in.
Hanson asked how much money the City contributed to the
Little Canada School expansion project.
The City Administrator replied that about $70,000 was
contributed to that project, all of which came from
Page 7
