MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 23, 1991
The City Planner gave some examples, and pointed out
that outdoor storage is restricted from the I-P
District.
LaValle asked why truck repair was an accessory use in
the District, but auto repair was not.
The City Planner explained that truck repair is
accessory to an industrial use in the I-P District.
That is, an industrial business would be allowed to
repair the trucks used in that business. Auto repair
is clearly not a permitted or accessory use in the I-P
District. The Planner noted that Spectrum Auto was
discovered because they put up a sign on Centerville
Road. Commercial businesses are dependent on such
exposure. The truck repair business that existed
previously was almost invisible, however, truck repair
that is not accessory to a commercial business, is also
not a permitted use in the I-P District.
Spectrum Auto reported that they put a sign up so
customers could find them. However, they do not
advertise and are not using the sign to attract
business. Spectrum stated that the sign could be
eliminated.
The City Planner stated that the sign is not the issue,
but rather a distinction between commercial and
industrial businesses.
Hanson stated that it is apparent that there is not
enough support for the text amendment, and suggested
that the Council deal with the issue of the relocation
period.
Blesener stated that he would support a relocation
period through the end of the lease.
There was no one from the general public present
wishing to address this matter.
Upon motion by Blesener, seconded by Collova, the
public hearing was closed.
Scalze asked how long the sign could remain, pointing
out that it is a temporary sign.
Spectrum replied that the sign is permanent and meets
Code requirements.
Hanson stated that the operation was a clean one, and
one he would like to see be allowed to remain.
Page 5
