MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 23, 1991
The Fire Chief reported that the new truck will be paid
for with funds raised by the Fire Department through
charitable gambling. Expected delivery is June or
July, 1992. The last truck purchased by the Department
was delivered in 1983. At that time the truck had to
be built to fit the old Fire Station.
Blesener asked if the truck was of a size that it could
be taken out on a normal run.
Graczyk reported that the truck has a single axle. Its
length is about 4 or 5 feet longer than the last truck
that was purchased. Graczyk reported that members of
the Department drove a similar vehicle and found it to
be very maneuverable.
Graczyk reported that the Department plans to sell the
older pumper. It is getting difficult to find parts
for this truck, however, Graczyk believes that there is
a market for the truck.
LaValle asked about updating the older vehicle with a
new diesel engine and new pumps to save money.
Dick Boss reported that Roseville recently refurbished
the body on one of its trucks at a cost of $95,000.
This did not include a new engine.
Graczyk agreed that replacing the engine and pumps is
very expensive, and pointed out that the truck is still
left with a body that is not up to standards and cannot
carry long enough ladders. Graczyk pointed out that
the new truck will have a positive effect on the City's
fire rating, which will be a direct benefit to City
businesses.
Dick Boss reported that the cost of the new truck is
$373,853. Boss reported that the Fire Department has
been involved in charitable gambling since 1987, and
has been building a fund with its profits for the
purpose of purchasing new equipment. Boss detailed the
payment schedule for the truck and reported that by
estimated delivery date, the Department will have a
shortfall of only about $20,000 for the purchase. Boss
pointed out that all the money the Fire Department has
derived from charitable gambling is donated back to the
citizens of Little Canada in one form or another
through a reduction in the tax burden.
Boss commented on the joint efforts of the City and
Fire Department in keeping the City's equipment and
facilities up-to-date.
Page 7
