MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 27, 1991
than those which have traditionally held such events in
the City. Scalze reported that this decision was made
when the City purchased the Pioneer Park property as
part of discussions that were held with surrounding
property owners. Scalze felt that if a change was
going to be made to that policy, then the City should
discuss the matter again with the surrounding property
owners.
Scalze viewed approval of the application for temporary
liquor license submitted by Midwest Sports as setting a
real precedent. Scalze felt that if this application
is granted, the City would have no reason to deny
anyone a temporary permit for serving alcohol on the
lake. Scalze pointed out that the only temporary
licenses the City has granted have been for St. John's
Church as well as the LCRA, which subsidizes the City's
recreation program.
LaValle pointed out that the lake is controlled by the
County, and the County has approved the use of the lake
for the tournament. LaValle pointed out the guidelines
outlined by Midwest Sports Events for the serving of
alcohol at the lake, and felt that if those guidelines
are acceptable, then approval of the temporary liquor
license was only a formality.
Scalze stated that she supported the use of the lake
for the tournament, but not the issuance of a license
for beer sales in conjunction with the tournament. It
was noted that LCRA's alcohol sales occur in the
basement of the old fire station, and not at the lake.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 91-11-400 - DENYING THE APPLICATION FOR
TEMPORARY LIQUOR LICENSE REQUESTED BY MIDWEST SPORTS
EVENTS FOR BEER SALES IN CONJUNCTSON WITH A
SOFTBALL-ON-ICE TOURNAMENT WHICH TxEY PLAN TO HOLD AT
GERVAIS LAKE ON FEBRUARY 15 AND 16~ 1992
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Blesener, Collova, Hanson.
Nays (1) LaValle.
Resolution declared adopted.
GAMBLING Hanson reported that the North Ramsey 500 Lions Club
LICENSE has submitted an application for renewal of their
RENEWAL - Class D license so that they may conduct a gold plate
LIONS CLUB dinner at the Ve netian Inn some time in February.
Hanson reported that there are new rules and
Page 5
