MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 12, 1992
Sanders noted that there is a lot of bike and
pedestrian traffic around the lake. Maplewood is
currently redoinq their portion of the road, and as far
as Sanders knew, Maplewood was not incorporating any
trail system into the road improvement.
Sanders next reviewed the implementation section of the
Plan, noting that there are cost estimates laid out for
the various improvements as well as a phasing plan.
Sanders noted that improvements will be dependent upon
funding, however.
Hanson noted the deteriorating condition of some of the
City's roads indicating that the City may be
hard-pressed to proceed with many park improvements.
Sanders reported that the Park Commission recognizes
that there are other priorities in the City.
Hanson reported that he received a call from a citizen
upset with the Council's recent support of a grant
application for Gervais Mill Park.
Blesener noted that the grant that the City recently
submitted for Gervais Mill Park did not require
additional dollar commitment by the City. The City
used its initial purchase price of the Gervais Mill
Park property as its contribution in the project.
LaValle pointed out that it was erroneously reported in
the press that the City had committed $100,000 to the
project. LaValle reported that the City has already
acquired the property and that was indicated as the
City's commitment to the project on the grant
application with no additional City dollars.
Hanson pointed out that one of the greatest benefactors
to the City has been charitable gambling. If profits
are declining in that area, the City would be looking
at less and less money coming in for park improvements.
Sanders reported that there are a
available for park projects which
advantage of in the past and will
the future.
The last two sections of the Plan
were the Operation and Maintenanc
Appendix.
lot of grant monies
the City has taken
continue to do so in
reviewed by Sanders
a Section and the
Hanson noted that copies of the proposed Park Master
Plan are available at City Hall for anyone interested
in reviewing it.
Page 13
