MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 12, 1992
Hanson suggested that Indian gambling casinos may have
had an effect on the bingo hall.
Matson agreed and felt the current economy was
effecting business as well.
LaValle questioned a donation by North Suburban Youth
Association for repair of the running track at
Roseville High School. LaValle felt that this item was
the responsibility of the School District and should
have been paid for by tax dollars going to the
District. LaValle also questioned the donation of
$3,500 to the School District for a basketball
scoreboard.
Matson reported that his Association has addressed the
issue of the scoreboard and has sent a letter to the
School District indicating that they feel this type of
improvement is the District's responsibility. Aowever,
with regard to the track, Matson stated that it was
NSYA's feeling that the track repairs were a safety
item. However, Matson agreed that the School District
should take greater responsibility for the funding of
these kinds of projects.
Scalze reported that she looked at where the $106,000
in funds raised by NSYA at the Little Canada Bingo Aall
were donated. Scalze stated that it appeared that only
$13,000 of these funds had a direct benefit on the
citizens of Little Canada. Scalze pointed out that
last year NSYA donated $4,000 to the Super Summer Day
Camp program, and she understands that there will be no
donation for this camp in 1992. Scalze urged NSYA to
assist that program more. Scalze reported that there
are a great many needs right here in Little Canada.
Matson reported that his organization does invite
people back even though their requests may have been
denied. Any request from Little Canada receives the
same consideration as other requests.
LaValle asked how many individuals on the NSYA Board
were from Little Canada.
Matson replied that there are 16 members of the Board
and 3 of those members are from Little Canada. Matson
stated that he believes the Little Canada board members
would say that the process NSYA uses is a fair one.
LaValle asked about the NSYA's commitment for funding
for the recently completed warming house on Demont
Street in Little Canada.
Page 9
